Alberta 2009 DH season is history!!!

Alberta Cup DH dates:

#1 July 4-5 Grand Prairie DH, Grand Prairie
#2 July 11-12 Kicking Horse DH, Golden
#3 July 18-19 Park Cycle DH, Rabbit Hill
#4 Aug 1-2 Rum Runner DH, Blairmore

The 2009 Alberta DH Cup season is officially over and what a year it was. Two new courses, record attendance and fantastic weather for all the races. This season has proved to be the best DH racing season Alberta has ever seen.

The final race, The Rum Runner DH, was held over the August long weekend saw nearly 100 racers converge on the Rum Runner course at Pass Powderkeg. Saturday training saw the slightly changed course baked in sunshine and leaving everyone with smiles on their faces. If you camped up at the hill Saturday night you got the most unreal lighting show ever and then the rains came. Race day came and the sun had returned in full force but could not dry out the course in certain places and lines that were buff on Saturday were very sketchy on Sunday. Numerous riders of all skill levels had some major crashes and nearly everyone went down at some point during the day.

In the end it was Rob Chapman taking the Elite DH Championship with Luke Stevens taking the U17 title which gives this young ripper a national and a provincial title this year. The Junior Mens title was taken by Jesse Darling with Stephen Matthews, Russel Bock and Richard Ratte’ claiming the Senior Mens, Master A and Master B titles respectively. The top female racer of the day was Dominique Doyon taking the ladies title.

We here at ADHRA would like to thank all the racers, organizers, volunteers, sponsors and supporters of DH racing that helped make this the best year ever!!!

Cheers
