Twenty6 Rallye Pedal – Preview

Twenty6 has been pushing the envelope in recent years putting out some of the strongest, lightweight parts on the market. Pain Inc has recently acquired some of their new products, namely the Rallye pedal, and the F1 stem. In this article, I’ll be lecturing about the Rallye pedal, and in the coming days the F1 stem article will be revealed.
First up to bat, we have the Rallye pedals. New for 2009, the Rallye has many similarities to the 6Foe pedal that we reviewed last season, but with several additional benefits that set these pedals apart from anything else on the market. These benefits improve on last year’s design, while losing some weight in the process.
For starters, out is the 6-4 Titanium axle, and in comes a new 6Q2 Titanium pedal axle with a Ti-Nitride coating. I could go into very specific details about the qualities of this alloy, but I’ll save you the time and eye strain. All you need to know is that this new titanium alloy was developed in collaboration with the Raptor fighter jet project, it’s very light, and very strong, making it an excellent upgrade over last year’s axle.
The pedal bodies are still machined from 6061 T6 billet aluminum, however, the body is now an astounding 5/8 inch thick; giving these pedals an extremely low profile, making rocks and foreign objects less likely to contact your feet. These new pedal bodies move freely on the titanium axle by the use of two olite bushings, keeping everything housed nice and snug. What would this olite bushing be without some sort of barrier protecting it from dirt and debris? That’s where dual quad o-ring seals come in—they keep dirt out, and lubrication in.
Compared to last year’s design, the CNC machined pedal bodies have grown in surface area while maintaining a consistent Jenny Craig diet. The outer “pin perimeter” of the pedal is now symmetrical, allowing pin placement to be identical on each face. This is due in part to the new offset parallelogram design; a very welcome change!
The whole philosophy of having a truly custom pedal is still in existence. Each pedal has 76 available traction pin locations, giving you a variety of places to screw-in pedal pins. The Rallye design allows a rider to change pins from underneath the pedal body rather than from on top. So if you damage a pin on a rock, you’ll still be able to pull it out from underneath and replace it without any hardship. Also, Twenty6 includes two small canisters of additional pins of varying lengths so that you can ad/remove traction pins to give yourself that one-off custom feel.
The Rallye pedal is available in 11 different unique and distinct colors (Glacier White, Urban Camo, Wood Grain, Dirt, Mellow Yellow, Pink, Jet Black, Royal Blue, Vibe Red, Grass, and Burnt Orange) and is offered with ether the titanium axle discussed above, or a 4130 chromoly axle. Which ever option you choose, you’ll know that you have the best pedal on the market, with many hours of design and testing behind it.
Overall, strength has increased and weight has decreased by 37 grams over last years 6Foe pedal, giving these pedals a feathery 339 gram per pair total weight. What else is there to it?
